Welcome to 8th Grade Georgia Studies!
Hello Students and Parents,
My name is Scott Swann, and I am absolutely thrilled to be returning home to the Home of the Bulldogs this year! Not only am I joining the incredible team here at Thomson-McDuffie Middle School, but I am also a proud 1986 graduate of Thomson High School. There is truly nothing like coming back to the community that shaped me, and I can't wait to share my passion for our state's history, culture, and government with you.
My journey in education and service has taken me down some incredible paths. After high school, I served in the Army Reserve from 1988 to 1992, during which time I also completed my degree at Georgia College and State University, graduating in 1992.
Before coming to TMMS, I spent 20 wonderful years teaching Economics and Business Education at Warren County High School. I have also had the unique and rewarding opportunity to teach GED classes at the Augusta State Medical Prison. Beyond the classroom, baseball is a major passion of mine—I have coached the game at every level, youth leagues to travel ball, middle school, and right up through high school varsity programs.
When I am not teaching or coaching, you can usually find me following high school and college sports, or out on the open road. My wife, Debra, and I love traveling the country in our motorhome. So far, we have checked 35 states off our list, and our ultimate goal is to visit every single state and every National Park in the United States!
I am looking forward to a fantastic, productive, and exciting year exploring the great state of Georgia with all of you. Please feel free to reach out to me anytime with questions or concerns.
Go Dawgs!
